Soul Tax Flash Game Review

Developer: jlong84
Genre: Puzzle/Platformer
Kongregate Rating: 3.70/5
FlashMush Rating: 8.5/10

Want to possess people, throw them off buildings, just to pay a tax to the Grim Reaper? Well, that's the premise of Soul Tax!

The storyline goes that you're a ghost haunting your old place of work when the Grim Reaper comes and says that you've fell through the cracks in the underworld system and you have to pay your soul back taxes or else you are sent to eternal hell. Luckily for you he vows to help he takes some sick pleasure in this. To pay your soul taxes you have to kill people. To do this you have to possess the people and then kill a variety of ways. As you progress more characters are introduced with different powers. You have janitors who can break through floors, CEOs who scare people away, cops with guns, robbers who can open doors, etc.

Now I don't know about you but this is a very unique idea for a free online flash game. The idea of a ghost platformer in which you have a limited amount of time to kill a certain amount of people, very original. The game is excellent in other areas as well. The graphics are of the same style as other jlong84 games which I find very appealing as it's simple, but polished. Also the game excels in the actual storyline which I mentioned above. But to add onto this the characters give a brief funny interjection at the beginning and end of each level.

The only issue I have with the game is the inclusion of a time limit. I think it's a tad unfair and makes the game a tad bit hard on some levels as you have no chance to formulate a true plan of action before you have to start over again.

  1. Cool concept for a game :D Graphics seem a little bit... ugly, though.

  2. I can see why you'd say that but I for one like the simplicity of the pixel graphics. Always have.

  3. I think the time limit makes it more fun but eventually frustrating.
I do like the side-scroller, pixelated graphics. Makes it look cleaner imo.

  4. Looks pretty good, im going to try it out later.

  5. "Want to possess people, throw them off buildings, just to pay a tax to the Grim Reaper? Well, that's the premise of Soul Tax!"

I only had to read that to know i wanted to play that game :D

  6. Nice idea! I like it... will play more when i got some spare time...
