Here's a game everyone should be familiar with. Jolly Jong 2 is essentially another rehash of Mahjong type games, although I guess it's kind of unfair to call it a rehash when Mahjong games are essentially a whole 'nother genre in themselves. But either way, it's a Mahjong type game and I know you know what I'm talking about.

Fortunately, Jolly Jong 2 is one of the best Mahjong type games I've ever played and I actually really love Mahjong and used to play them on my computer with my mom when bored on vacations, but I digress. What makes Jolly Jong 2 so good is the amount of detail and thought put into making it stand out from the literal thousands other Mahjong games out there. Firstly the graphics are all polished and smooth, really gives a professional look to everything. Also the way the tiles behave really struck me as something unique. Basically the tile patterns have an element of physics to them in the fact that they are "stacked'. Meaning, if you get a pair of tiles and there are tiles above it, they will fall down until they rest on a tile under them (or the base level/ground). Not only is this a unique dynamic but it really takes the familiar Mahjong gameplay style and turns it slightly to make it exciting for all us die hard Mahjong fans like myself and my mother.

However, it still is just a Mahjong game as much as it pains me to say that. It's not a unique idea, it's been done time and time again and for that, while it's still a really great representation of Mahjong culture, I can't give it too high of a rating.

  1. Looks like a complicated game of tetris.

  2. Best "Mahjong" game I've played. Really reminds me of Kung Fu Panda :P
It's like any "Mahjong" game but with a new design. Overall, best "Mahjong" game.

The reason Mahjong has " " around it is because it's not a real Mahjong game. Mahjong is played with four players and is similar to a poker layout. This is a matching type "Mahjong" game. A good term for it is "Mahjong Solitaire"

@Cary - It's actually not complicated at all. The first few levels are easy, then it gets harder. However, then it gets easier as you are used to searching and eventually you become pretty quick. Got to x7 bonus at least, didn't notice it after that :P

  3. I guess technically you are correct there Vince. =p Although seems most games have popularized the usage of "Mahjong" to mean this type of puzzle/solitaire game rather than the traditional four person game.

  4. <3 Anytime. Glad you like my review.

  5. cool i like how this mahjong game is presented it is very different to the other mahjong gamnes where it is flat the board! and another great review flashmush!

  6. I used to play this, its fun. I loved it, I still. But now its gone :(
