Lava Climber Flash Game Review

Genre: Platformer
FlashMush Rating: 8.5/10

Sometimes you just want to play an extremely difficult game. VVVVVV is this type of game to an extent as well as one of my all time favorites; Give Up Robot. Lava Climber, if you couldn't figure out where I was going with this, also fits under this sub-genre.

Lava Climber gets it's difficulty in a few different ways. You do have the "time" factor being enforced by well...rising lava. Hence the title. Don't hurry up and you get toasted. This of course leads to rush moves which leads to mistakes and then...death. Lava Climber also features an insane amount of various traps and pitfalls all arranged in diabolical ways to ensure entrapment and death. Now I know a lot of people may be turned off by games that are too hard... It's unfortunate that that mindset exists as I feel these are the "real" games. Going back to the retro roots of limited lives and eye popping difficulty.

Lava Climber also features a really unique graphical look. The intro sequence is very Anime-ish and overall the graphics have that look I suppose. Not cartoony anime but just...I dunno, it is hard to explain but play the game and look at my screenshot to see. Either way I really like it due to that uniqueness factor and it makes Lava Climber stick out in a good way.
