Sqr Flash Game Review

Link: Sqr
Developer: Bassneck
Genre: Puzzle/Platformer
FlashMush Rating: 6.5/10

No, I did not misspell the name of this flash game nor just slam my hand down in frustration. Sqr is the name of this game and it is your typical puzzle platformer with a twist type game. What fun!

The "gimmick", if I may use that term, in Sqr is gravity manipulation. There are switches (arrows) around the level which you can hit to reverse gravity. Reverse it to get the keys to the door and extra point bars! Sounds reasonable enough right? So why my low score?

A few issues mainly. First off the controls aren't exactly tight. Not sure if it is due to an overly sensitive physics engiene or just loose controls but either way, quick maneuvers is not always possible. Also the controls flip and reverse themselves as you flip and reverse the gravity, leads to some frustrating times. Also when you die the sequences take forever and it just adds loads of unnecessary time. While I hate the time on the death sequences I must say I do like them. Each way to die has a different sequence. I also, of course, like the pixelated graphics and the idea overall is quite good.

  1. frustrating controls can easily ruin a game. too bad :/

  2. I agree, it can be pretty frustrating. However, it is the key feature that makes it different from other puzzle platformers.
