The latest game I've seen posted around the internet is 2048 which is not a futuristic sci-fi game but instead an interesting and extremely hard math based game. In fact 2048 is based off of 1024 by Veewo Studio.
Simply put the goal of 2048 is to get a tile to 2048. Game starts out with a 4x4 grid and two tiles placed randomly. The starting tiles have the number 2 on them and the goal is to combine them to eventually get to 2048. So you combine two 2s to make a 4, combine two 4s to make an 8, etc. The difficult parts comes in the tile movement and that after each move more tiles pop up. Movement in 2048 works in a way that whatever direction you send the tiles, every tile moves that way. This makes it kind of hard to plan too far ahead and just makes a general chaotic game.
Games of 2048 can be incredibly short and in general the game is super addicting as you can just smash the keypad for results. With that being said there is some thought to it all and is basically a puzzle. Overall, 2048 is super addicting and deserves the recent attention it is getting.
